Topic: Odds and ends

And here I'd been deluding myself that by being very careful to say 'library' instead of 'liberry' and 'wahter' instead of 'wooder', I'd managed to avoid acquiring a South Jersey accent:

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Fabulous Quiz! right on the money:

What American accent do you have?

Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

See what my non-native Baltimorean parents did to me?  At least they taught me to call it "soda"!

Hee. Well, my parents managed to keep me from acquiring a Southern accent, despite our years in Georgia. I think I'm grateful for that, although having just watched 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', I'm rather longing for a southern accent and perfect white linen cocktail dress (and a young Elizabeth Taylor's body to wear it on).
