Phillip Island
Topic: Catching up
I went to Phillip Island today, on a day trip organized through the postgrad association. It had seemed like a good idea three weeks ago, when I signed up for it, but I neglected to consider the fact that, as I progress through the semester and begin to feel overwhelmed with all the work I should be doing, I tend to grow increasingly cranky and anti-social. All I could think this morning was "I should've known better." I was so not looking forward to it. But it was such an amazingly gorgeous day -- warm, sunny, clear sky, light breeze -- I figured I may as well go through with it. Things did not get off to an entirely promising start, as our driver started off immediately with a cornball tour guide routine, and I commenced with the eye-rolling. But he eventually stopped, and like I said, it was a gorgeous day. And there were koalas, and the world's smallest penguins, which are so adorable they must be seen to believed, and even my crankiest mood is not proof against that much sunshine and cuteness. No pictures allowed at the "penguin parade", unfortunately, and the ones I took at the koala reserve were mostly too dark, because it was late in the afternoon, but the few that came out even reasonably well are here.
